Where We Go, When We Go, and What It Takes to Experience the Aurora
Our aurora hunting tours start from Rovaniemi, located in Finnish Lapland. These tours run from late August to early April, on nights when there’s a possibility of seeing the northern lights.
I keep group sizes small, with a maximum of 8 participants, ensuring a more personalized experience.
This tour is designed for those who are ready to put in maximum effort to experience the aurora. It’s not for those looking for comfort or a quick and easy experience, as nature rarely makes it simple. Participants should be prepared for long drives to find clear skies and to wait patiently for the best aurora activity.
For these reasons, I do not recommend this tour for families with young children, elderly individuals, those with disabilities, movement restrictions, medical conditions, or anyone who is pregnant. It’s an adventure best suited for those with a strong sense of determination and adaptability.
The tour lasts anywhere from 5 to 10 hours, with departure times between 15:30 and 19:00, depending on how far we need to travel to find clear skies. I usually provide an estimated departure time the day before. To join the tour on the same night, you’ll need to arrive in Rovaniemi by 14:00–15:00.
The return time is flexible, depending on aurora activity and weather conditions, but we usually get back between 1:00 and 5:00 AM. If you have an early flight or activity planned for the next morning, this tour might not be the best choice.
We aim to maximize the chance of seeing the aurora, so we often leave early and don’t return until the show is over. Unlike many tours, we skip the “aurora barbecue” to focus entirely on the experience of seeing and photographing the northern lights. When the auroras appear, I’ll help you capture beautiful photos, and I’m happy to teach you how to use your own camera for aurora photography.
The tour includes unlimited successful photos and provides warm winter clothing, including overalls and winter boots.
To secure your spot on the tour, a booking fee is required, which can be paid via a payment link. The remaining balance will be collected on-site with a credit card, but only after the tour has been successfully completed. This means you’ll only pay the full amount once the experience has been delivered. Detailed pricing information, as well as our full Terms & Conditions, can be found at the bottom of this page. We encourage you to review these carefully before confirming your booking.
Please note that nature is inherently unpredictable. Even if we venture out under clear skies, there is always a chance that the northern lights may not appear. Additionally, adverse weather conditions could result in the tour being cancelled, occasionally even on short notice. In the event that we do not see the aurora or if the tour is cancelled, rest assured that your booking fee will be fully refunded, and no additional charges will apply.
However, if you choose to cancel your booking for any reason, please be aware that the booking fee is non-refundable. This policy helps us manage the logistics and preparations required to offer these unique experiences. We appreciate your understanding and are committed to making every effort to deliver a memorable and worthwhile tour.
I offer pickup within Rovaniemi and areas up to 10 km from the city center. Unfortunately, I cannot provide pickup services for accommodations located outside this area in Lapland.
This tour focuses entirely on maximizing your chances of seeing the northern lights, with small group sizes (max 8 people), tailored routes based on weather forecasts. A success rate of over 90% is achieved by traveling up to 350 kilometers to find clear skies.
The tour lasts 5 to 10 hours, with departures between 15:30 and 19:00, depending on the conditions. Estimated departure times are shared the day before, and participants should arrive in Rovaniemi by 14:00–15:00. Return times vary between 1:00 and 5:00 AM.
